Due to a change in our routine for fetching email contents, we have discovered a fault which appears to result in a status message saying under certain circumstances that email content is still pending, or has already failed. We are investigating this issue.

We found that some email parsing has failed due to the change in our routine, and these parsing jobs were backlogged without being retried automatically. We have now processed these jobs again, and also rolled out a fix which should remediate the underlying issue. The problem should therefore be fixed, but we are closely monitoring the situation.
